Mir Ijlal Shaani is the founder of May Nineteen Films, an independent film company, and is a filmmaker and visual artist based in New Delhi. A History graduate from Ambedkar University, Delhi, his work explores themes of migration, class, gender, and psychology.

He has served as an assistant director on Mantra (2017) by Rajat Kapoor and Nicholas Kharkongor, and as director’s assistant to Zoya Akhtar and Alankrita Shrivastava.

His short feature Adventures of Faisal Rehman premiered at the 20th Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), and was also screened at the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival and the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) Toronto, among others. He has collaborated with a range of institutions, both corporate and non- profit, including Amazon, CREA, Nirantar, Khoj, Swissnex, Point of View Mumbai, and American Jewish World Service (AJWS) among others. 

 

Mir is currently working as a sound archivist at Change Room Archives and is developing his first feature-length film.
